Math Stars

TSMS had a very eventful Saturday hosting our 12th annual Math Stars competition! It was such a great time and we are so proud of the kids that came out and blew us away with their math skills. Nearly 80 third, fourth and fifth grade students from schools across Leon County participated in the competition on Saturday, Jan. 26, for a chance to win a variety of prizes. The event included two rounds of competition and concluded with an awards ceremony.

When students weren’t competing, they took part in “See to Sea,” a hands-on activity allowing them to look, hold and learn about live ocean creatures. Students also had the chance to participate in speed math games, experience a perspective and optical illusion table provided by Keiser University, and use 3D simulation technology from the school’s STEM lab.

The top three “Math Stars” received $100, $75 and $50 gift cards, trophies were awarded to the top five contestants, and medals were awarded to those in sixth through 10th place. A list of the top 10 “Math Stars” for 2019 is provided below.

Math Stars Overview

Math Stars is the Tallahassee School of Math and Science's annual Math competition for 3rd-5th Grade students.
The primary goal of this competition is to stimulate interest and achievement in mathematics among elementary school students throughout Leon County.
