TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- The Tallahassee Police Department spent Thursday training students on cycling safety through a bike rodeo.

Thursday morning the TPD Bike squad visited elementary and middle school students at the Tallahassee School of Math and Science.

All month long the students learned proper bike roadway procedures.

The meet-up with the officers was the final step of their training
and with recent fatal cycling accidents, P.E. Coach Brandy Vance wants to make sure students remain safe and alert.

"It's super important to start them young and learn all of the safety rules that they need to know so that they can be aware when they're on the road and know exactly what they're supposed to be doing,” said Vance.

The Tallahassee School of Math and Science hope to make this an annual event for their students.
